First Survival Kit with useful Spanish Phrases for Visiting Spain

Are you planning a trip to Spain? ¡Estupendo! Whether you’re heading to the beaches of Valencia, the streets of Madrid, or the mountains of Granada, having a few key Spanish phrases can make your experience smoother and more enjoyable. Here are some essential expressions and cultural tips to help you during your adventure:

Getting Around

When asking for directions or transportation help, it’s polite to start with “Perdona” or “Disculpa” — both mean “excuse me.” Spaniards appreciate friendliness and respect!

  • ¿Cómo se va al centro? How do you get to the city center?
This is a common, impersonal way to ask for directions. Locals will usually be happy to point you in the right direction.
  • ¿Hay una parada de taxis por aquí cerca? Is there a taxi stop near here?
  • ¿La playa está lejos de aquí?Is the beach far from here?
  • ¿Está libre?Is it free?
You can use this for a seat, a dressing room, or a taxi. For example, if you see a cab, ask the driver: ¿Está libre?
  • ¿Me llevas a esta dirección, por favor? Can you take me to this address, please?

At the Hotel
